SHANE GAALAAS To Release Solo Debut
October 10, 2003Canadian drummer/percussionist Shane Gaalaas, whose stellar resume includes a hard rock "who's who" in addition his own band ventures, COSMOSQUAD and DIESEL MACHINE, is stepping out from behind his kit and stepping up to the plate in a big way with his first solo album, "Primer".
Written, performed, and recorded entirely by Gaalaas himself who, in true Dave Grohl fashion, handles drums, bass, lead and rhythm guitars, keyboards, as well as lead vocals, "Primer" is a solid combination of metallic crunch' n' groove, infectious modern rock flavors, and introspective acoustic moments, topped off by Shane's often multi-layered vocal approach.
"I'm not a negative person but sometimes we have issues that can eat at us, kind of repressed turbulence. Using music was a great vehicle for me to exorcise my inner demons. Good therapy indeed!" reflects Gaalaas on the motivation behind the album. "I learned a lot about myself in the process. The whole 'Primer' experience has been very rewarding musically and emotionally. I hope people can read into it a little deeper - there really is a positive vibe there."
In related news, Gaalaas is about to hit North American soil with B'Z, Japan's best selling rock band of all time, with sales approaching 90 million copies. The band are set to invade the U.S. for a 10-day West Coast run of dates for a second year in a row. These shows also mark the group's first with Gaalaas' COSMOSQUAD bandmate Barry Sparks (DOKKEN, TED NUGENT) on bass.
